“If it was easy, you would have asked me to kill you.” This was said matter-of-factly, but Lestat’s voice possessed a familiar tone of irritation. “I wanted you to fear it. Death, of course…” His voice trailed. Lestat’s arms pinched the material of his own coat, but then his hands slid away and one moved to hold the edge of the railing. “You didn’t know what it was, Louis. It was something you thought you wanted. Oh, you stopped saying that you wanted it after that... Despite all of your preoccupations, you never wanted to die.”

Possibly the best characterization of L&L's relationship in a nutshell I have ever read in fic. Nicely done!
